The Man Who Unmasked "Mighty Mouse"

January 16, 2009: Anyone who followed the Preble’s meadow jumping mouse saga -- or should I call it a fiasco? – probably has heard of Dr. Rob Roy Ramey, the conservation geneticist, formerly with the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, who sparked a national controversy, and challenged the scientific integrity of the most powerful environmental law in the land, by de-bunking the mouse’s status as a federally protected sub-species. Little could Ramey have imagined, at the time he undertook the study, what kind of firestorm his findings would ignite, and what kind of personal and professional attacks he would endure as a result of reporting and speaking the truth. Little could we imagine, either, what kind of contortions the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service would go through, in order to discredit Ramey and keep the animal from being de-listed.

Now you have the opportunity to meet Ramey, and to hear what he has to say on this and other topics, unfiltered by the media, at a January 16 luncheon hosted by The Woodford Foundation and Limited Government Forum. If you care about scientific integrity; if you’re interested in endangered species, and in the federal law that purports to protect them; if you want to better understand the impact genetics will have on the ESA; and if you’re interesting in hearing this directly, from the man behind the controversy -- then this is an event you should not miss.

We’ll be meeting at 11:30 a.m in Remington’s II at the Cheyenne Mountain Conference Resort. Buffet lunch is free, courtesy of The Woodford Foundation. But everyone should confirm their attendance in advance, since seating is limited and demand for this event will be high.
