Bringing the Fight for Freedom to America's BackyardWelcome to Local Liberty Online, which we hope to make a regular stop on the web not just for people in the Pikes Peak region of Colorado, but for all people, in every town and city across America, who recognize that the fight for freedom begins in their own backyard. Yes, Washington is a major problem. State capitals, too, need to be watched, lest our elected officials grow government beyond its proper limits. No one interested in protecting their pocketbook or preserving their freedom can ignore these power centers -- and we can't, either. But Local Liberty Online brings the focus in tighter, closer to home, right down to the grassroots, where threats to freedom, opportunity, prosperity and self-reliance can be just as serious. That’s our primary beat. We want you to walk it with us. “Local liberty issues” include: educational excellence and opportunity; property rights; fiscal responsibility and government efficiency; economic and civic literacy; open and accountable government; regulatory restraint and reform; improving the local business climate without resorting to corporate welfare. We trust in markets rather than mandates, in individual initiative instead of government action, in spontaneity and creativity rather than excessive planning. We encourage civic innovation, which often means government doing the same or more with less, and civic renewal, which means promoting volunteerism, private charity and the do-it-ourselves sector as an alternative to government action. So bookmark this site and return often: We’ll be working hard to make it worth your while, by featuring original content, reliable information, trenchant analysis, thought-provoking blogs (including our one-of-a-kind debate blog), a regular posting of notable news stories from around the country and much more. We're also home to The Asay Archive, a collection of the best liberty-oriented works of nationally-syndicated editorial cartoonist Chuck Asay. We at Local Liberty Online hope to create a vibrant online community for Americans who, whatever their position on the ideological spectrum, share a common desire to safeguard and expand freedom, opportunity and prosperity close to home. We'll focus more on ideas than on individuals, more on policy than on politicians. Our goal is to educate rather than indoctrinate, while conducting ourselves in the spirit of civility and good humor. Our posting of a news item or linking to a blog or a website does not constitute an endorsement of its content or conclusions by LLO or Local Liberty Action. We provide these links in an effort to inform and educate, allowing readers to reach their own conclusions about the validity of the information or opinions they may contain. We do not support and/or oppose any candidates in local, state or federal elections. We welcome your interest and involvement. |
